Syrah

Origin

natural hybrid. Parents: Mondoz Noir × Dureza, identified by DNA analysis. Originates from the Rhone Valley, France.

The grapes

Medium to large clusters with small, dark blue berries with a thick skin. The leaf is medium-sized, five-lobed, dark green, with moderately serrated edges. Ripens medium late – harvest is late September to October.

The wine

deep dark red to purple color. Typical aromas for the variety are black pepper, blackcurrant, black olive, smoky notes and violet. Dense body with good acidity, as the tannins are powerful but structured and soften with aging. Cheese from warm regions such as Melnik develops characteristic notes of overripe black fruits: mulberry, prunes, black cherry, with a typical meaty finish (dried meat, leather).
